Serve on the Foundation
Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides the strategic vision for the Tri Sigma Foundation to achieve its mission. The board is comprised of 14 alumnae directors and two National Council ex-officio members.

Service on the Foundation Board of Directors is a significant commitment and outstanding professional development opportunity. Directors contribute their knowledge and experience in various areas to strengthen the Tri Sigma Foundation and Tri Sigma as a whole. 

 

Applicants who lead with consensus-building, are good communicators, and have a visionary leadership style are encouraged to apply.

Applications are due Sunday, March 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Responsibilities & Requirements

    • Serve the full 3-year term (maximum 9-year consecutive service limit)

    • Attend annual in-person Board of Directors meetings (generally in the summer months)

    • Participate in monthly board and committee meetings via video conference

    • Attend Convention 2028 in Phoenix, Arizona

    • Duty of Care: Each Board member has a legal responsibility to participate actively in making decisions on behalf of the organization and exercise their best judgment. 

    • Duty of Loyalty: Each Board member must put the organization's interests before their personal and professional interests when acting on behalf of the organization in a decision-making capacity. The organization's needs come first. 

    • Duty of Obedience: Board members bear the legal responsibility of ensuring that the organization complies with the applicable federal, state, and local laws and adheres to its mission. 

    • Leadership: Participation in leadership roles (e.g., Tri Sigma C.A.B. or national volunteer positions, other non-profit boards, corporate boards, civic leadership positions).

    • Strategic thinking: Ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group.

    • Professionalism: High level of personal and professional integrity, acting as a woman of character; display flexibility and open-mindedness.

    • Commitment to Tri Sigma: History of philanthropic support and volunteerism for the Foundation and sorority.

    • Fundraising: Willingness to speak about the Foundation and its initiatives, including asking sisters to join you in financially supporting the organization.

    • Diverse Perspectives: Unique experiences and points of view to add to the skills and experience of Board members.

    • Responsibility: Commitment to dedicating time to and fulfilling the duties of a Board member.

  • We’re looking for Sigmas with areas of expertise in the following areas: 

    • Non-profit financial management, including investments or accounting 

    • Strategic leadership 

    • Non-profit governance 

    • Entrepreneurship 

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Board service is a 3-year appointment, with a maximum 9-year consecutive service limit.

  • Yes, each Board member is expected to:

    • Make an annual unrestricted gift to the Foundation according to personal means, but no less than $1,000 in cash or equities, realizing the leadership role the Board must play in fund development.

    • Pay for their expenses associated with the annual in-person meetings, including airfare, hotel, meals, etc. This includes the costs associated with attending the triennial National Convention.

  • No, Foundation Board members cannot serve in any other formal volunteer capacity within Tri Sigma on a chapter or national level.

  • The Foundation can call for nominations whenever a Board vacancy needs to be filled. This generally occurs in January or February each year.

  • The Nominating Committee will conduct phone interviews with final candidates.

  • Applicants will be notified in mid-May.

    Founders Day of Giving Ambassador: Are you a Sigma that carries some influence with your sisters? Do you like to have fun and have just a little bit of time to give now through Founders Day? We need you on the Founders Day of Giving Ambassador Team! Stay tuned for more information this spring.

    Committee volunteer opportunities: Do you have 3-5 hours a month to give and are looking for a longer-term commitment? We are seeking sisters with a desire to serve the Foundation on the Development, Finance and Governance committees. Committee applications are welcome at any time. Click here to apply.
