  • Scholarship | Tri Sigma Foundation

Through annual merit- and need-based scholarships for collegiate and alumnae members, the Foundation recognizes outstanding achievement and relieves the rising costs of higher education. Empowering Achievement The Tri Sigma Foundation has awarded over half a million dollars in scholarship aid to members. Through annual merit- and need-based scholarships for collegiate and alumnae members, the Foundation recognizes outstanding achievement and relieves the rising costs of higher education. Scholarship applications are open to collegiate and alumnae members pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. Awards range from $1,000–$5,000. Applications open each spring, and awards are distributed at the beginning of the fall semester. Scholarship applications for the 2025-26 academic year are now closed. Check back early next year for more opportunities! Application Resources Thanks to generous donors, the Tri Sigma Foundation is pleased to offer more than 40 scholarships to meet the needs of our members. Click here to view the full list of scholarships and the requirements. Who can apply? Any Tri Sigma collegiate or alumnae member in good standing is eligible to apply for a scholarship. Members must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college or university. Proof of enrollment is required before a scholarship grant is issued. Applicants cannot be a current employee or Board member of the Tri Sigma Foundation, member of Tri Sigma’s Executive Council, or a relative of these individuals at the time of the scholarship award. Do I need letters of recommendation? One letter of recommendation is required for your application. Applicants are responsible for contacting the person writing their recommendation and ensuring the letter is submitted before the deadline. Applicants will upload the letter as part of their application. Letters of recommendation should come from someone who knows the applicant well, who is familiar with their work work, and who can speak to their leadership and service skills, as well as their character as either a Tri Sigma or as a member of the community. How are awards determined? Award amounts are based on available funding and range from $1,000-$5,000. No preference will be given to any applicant because of age, race, religion, sexual preference, economic status or ethnic origin, donor status, nor will preference by given to National Officers, other past/present volunteers, or past/present chapter officers. A committee of Tri Sigma Board members and volunteers scores applications and makes recommendations for awards based on merit, adherence to specific eligibility requirements, and demonstrated need. Award recipients and amounts are approved by the Foundation Board of Directors. Merit-based scholarship requirements Specific merit-based scholarships may have additional requirements for GPA, area of study, chapter, or leadership and service to chapter, campus, and community. Applicants cannot have received a merit-based scholarship from the Foundation in one of the preceding two years to be eligible for a merit-based scholarship. Needs-based scholarship requirements Needs-based scholarships require the applicant to demonstrate financial need. The application is heavily based on demonstrated need. However, weighing strengths and achievements in and outside the classroom allow evaluators to better understand applicants’ unique experiences and potential for success. Applicants applying for a needs-based scholarship must also complete the merit-based scholarship application.
